This is the best baked tempeh recipe and it's so simple and easy! Tempeh is a vegan protein made from soybeans. When you soak it in a marinade, it absorbs the flavors and becomes an incredibly delicious meat substitute for any of your plant-based dishes!
Begin by slicing your tempeh into bite-sized cubes and then transfer them into a medium sized mixing bowl.
Make your tempeh marinade. In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon of the olive oil. Then, add the maple syrup, coconut aminos, lemon juice, and garlic powder. Mix, and then drizzle this mixture onto the tempeh in the medium bowl. Let the tempeh sit in the marinade for 20 minutes. We recommend refrigerating during this time.
Preheat your oven to 400. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and brush it with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. You will want to make sure it's well coated.
Use tongs to remove the tempeh from the bowl and place them onto the greased baking sheet. Bake in the oven to 10 minutes. Then, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and use your tongs to flip the tempeh over. Return the tempeh to the oven and continue to bake for another 10 minutes or until they are golden and crisp.
