As you guys know, every month I spotlight a non profit organization that speaks to my heart! This month, I'm keeping it close to home. This year has been full of uncertainty, and I think it's safe to say it's been a tough one for everyone. But, there are some families it's been even harder on. Those who have children have had to receive medical care for a serious illness. Not only is there an extreme emotional burden that these families take on, but a financial one as well. "me fine" Foundation is a local organization here in Raleigh that supports families who's children are receiving medical care at hospitals including: Duke, UNC, and WakeMed. They provide financial assistance, emotional support, and seek to improve the outcome of the pediatric care that the children are receiving.
This organization is inspired by one of the many brave children who faced a life threatening illness. Folden Lee IV faced AML Leukemia in 2004 and whenever he was asked how he was, he replied "me fine"! Folden lost the battle to cancer, but so many others are still fighting. I decided to try to shine a spotlight on "me fine" and hope you take a chance to learn more and get involved with "me fine" or any other non profit in your community that helps the families of children facing life threatening illness. 3 out of 5 bankruptcies are due to medical debt. $6500 is the average cost for room and board in a pediatric care unit. These families have enough to worry about. Let's try to lighten their load.
