It's official! Our sweet little girl has dry skin. After noticing patches on her skin that appear to be baby eczema, we knew we needed to figure out a skin routine to alleviate any discomfort she was feeling. We tried it all. Doctors recommended Aquaphor which simply made things worse. We tried various other popular products on the market and even some high-end organic products. Here is what we found that works for our daughter. My hope is that if you have a baby dealing with dry skin, cradle cap, or baby acne - this list will help you too!
Tubby Todd Products
The number one product line that we love and recommend to our friends and family is Tubby Todd. We used their All-Over-Ointment on our daughter's cradle cap when she was only 2 months old and it cleared it right up. It also cleared up her baby acne. An oldie but a goodie. I remember we would use this same exact product to give my little brother colloidal oatmeal baths when he was a baby. He had baby eczema and this stuff always soothed and smoothed his skin. Our daughter loves her oatmeal baths. Usually we mix in some of my breast milk too - just for extra comfort and soothing. You can find these at almost any super market, drug store, or grocery store.
Bamboo Sleepers
100% cotton has always been recommended for babies and these bamboo sleepers from Little Sleepies are a step up! They're breathable, lightweight, super soft, and they come in adorable patterns! I know what you're thinking ... pricy! But, the nice thing about these sleepers (other than the buttery soft feel and high quality manufacturing) is that they stretch so babies can wear them longer and get more use!
Coconut Oil
We made a joke that with our next baby, we will just dip them in coconut oil each day. This stuff works wonders! We use it on her scalp, on all of her rough, red, and dry patches. She smells delicious and we love that coconut oil is all natural. We don't actually dip her in it .. obviously. We use it all over her scalp and to spot treat the really dry areas of her body. Then, we use the Tubby Todd All Over Ointment to seal it in. This routine was recommended by her pediatrician. You can pick up coconut oil at pretty much any grocery store or supermarket. Any brand will do as long as it is organic 100% virgin coconut oil!
Coterie Diapers
Coterie Diapers are expensive. There is no denying it. Their claims to fame are that they are as pillowy soft as cloth diapers, made with clean ingredients, and are great for babies with sensitive skin. They don't lie. We love them and if we could afford to only use this brand, we would. But, we do mix in another brand and use Coterie for nighttimes and when her skin is irritated. Humidifier
Don't underestimate the power of the moisture in the air (or the lack of it)! We live in Florida and our baby was born in the heat and humidity of summer. Now that it's cooler and less humid, her skin is thirsty! We keep the humidifier going all night in her room and it's made a huge difference in her skin. Here is a link to the one we use!
