Breast Feeding Must-Haves!

We're almost three weeks into breast-feeding and I've learned A LOT from other mama's, our lactation consultant, and even our sweet baby girl. The first 7-10 days were rough while we figured out latching, but we've been getting the hang of it. No more pain, my nipples have healed, and I now look forward to these precious feeding times (and post meal cuddles) where I get to nurse our baby girl. I feel so blessed and wanted to share some of the products that have helped me so far along my breastfeeding journey.

1. Get The Right Glider

Preferably one that reclines with the push of a button rather than a manual recline. Baby is going to be needy in those first few weeks and your hands may be full. Also, if you're healing from labor an electric recliner will be your best friend! I'm sharing a spend and splurge option for you! I love both equally! We use the Nurture& in her nursery and the Babyletto in our master bedroom for night time feedings.

2. Silverette Metal Nipple Cups

If you have sore, cracked, or bleeding nipples in the beginning of breast feeding - these silverettes are a game changer! Healed me within a day and no more painful breastfeeding! Expensive but worth every penny!

3. Creams To Heal Nipples

The creams and butters I used to heal my nipples! All were recommended by our lactation consultant at the hospital. I recommend wiping off before feeding! The MediHoney Gel healed my nipples when the skin was broken in the early days! I use Earth Mama Nipple Butter in between feeds and Lanolin Nipple Cream when things get really chapped. Here is a link to all three creams on Amazon.

4. Haaka Milk Collector

If you have a fast let down while breast feeding, the Haaka Milk Collector is a must! It has a light suction and has helped me collect a huge extra supply of milk to save for later! Way more passive than a pump but this collects 2-3 ounces per feed for me and has been so helpful for creating a breast milk stash! I recommend buying at least 2 and be sure to get the ones with the stand at the bottom so you can easily sit it down during nursing sessions. Here are the breast milk bags we use to freeze and store the extra milk.

5. Hatch Restore Sunrise Alarm + Sound Machine

We have the Hatch Rest Sound Machine in her nursery but the Hatch Restore is simply a MUST for in the master bedroom! It’s a sunrise alarm clock for gentle waking, plays music, white noise, and even soothing sounds for baby and for adults! Perfect for the first few months when baby is sleeping in the bedroom with mommy and daddy.

6. A Gallon Water Bottle

I didn’t realize how important WATER is for breast feeding but I can literally feel the difference in how easily my milk lets down when I'm hydrated versus dehydrated! It's amazing how much water the body uses to create breast milk. This water bottle helps keep me on track!

7. Frida Mom Breastfeeding Essentials Kit

The Frida Mom Breastfeeding Essentials kit is worth every penny! Whenever my breasts are sore from breast feeding (especially the cluster feeding in the early days) I use the warmers, cooling gels, and creams and feel instant relief!

8. Reusable Nursing Pads

I found these Kindred Bravely Nursing Pads much more comfortable than the disposable nursing pads and also cheaper/more eco friendly because they are machine washable! I purchased two packs.
