Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Ingredients

  • Bread: In this recipe, you can use any bread you'd like. I used gluten-free white bread, but whole wheat, or any other regular or gluten-free sandwich bread will work.
  • Peanut Butter: Use your favorite creamy or crunchy peanut butter in this recipe.
  • Jelly: Use any of your favorite jams or jelly, I went with Stonewall strawberry flavor! blueberry or grape jelly are both great in this pb&j recipe.
  • Butter: We fry the peanut butter and jelly sandwich in butter. I used Country Crock plant butter to make this a vegan sandwich, but you can use any butter of your choice.
  • Maple Syrup: Frying the peanut butter and jelly sandwich is how we get that crisp golden exterior. Add a little maple syrup to the pan when frying. Trust me, it's delicious! Be sure to use pure 100% maple syrup and not pancake syrup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich healthy?

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches can be healthy when using organic unsweetened peanut butter and jelly with minimal added sugars. Peanut butter is a great source of protein and fat. The level of healthiness will depend on the ingredients you use. And ... whether you fry it or not 🙂

What goes on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich first?

This is a controversial one! Personally, I like to add the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the jelly on another slice of bread. I know some people like to add the peanut butter and jelly on the sand slice. Your sandwich, your choice!

How to make the perfect PB&J?

Step 1: Spread one slice of bread with peanut butter. Spread the other slice with jelly. Put the two together to make the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Step 2: Bring a skillet with vegan butter to medium heat. Once the butter sizzles, add maple syrup and use the mixture to evenly coat the pan.
Step 3: Place the pb&j sandwich into the skillet and fry for about a minute on each side (until golden & crisp) - enjoy!

Omg fried PB sandwiches are MA favorite!!! I usually do whole wheat oatmeal bread (homemade), peanut or cashew butter on one slice, agave or honey on the other and then add apple slices and cinnamon and it’s SO good ? I’m gonna def have to try it like this. Also, using maple syrup mixed with the butter(I use country crock plant butter as well lol) to fry it is genius!! I’m def doing that next time I make one! You said you use stonewall jelly? I’m guessing that’s the one you would recommend? Bc I’m super picky about jelly lol and am always looking for suggestions. My fav are cherry, grape, and raspberry. I usually make my own but sometimes a girl just ain’t got time for all that lmao.
