Cinnamon Roll Banana Bread Ingredients
- Bananas: The key to making the perfect banana bread is to use ripe bananas. Think 'brown and spotty'. Mash the medium sized bananas into an applesauce-like texture and they add a natural sweetness and banana bread flavor to this delicious breakfast recipe.
- Maple Syrup: To make our cinnamon roll banana bread batter super moist and give it a delicious maple flavor - we use pure maple syrup in the batter.
- Butter: To keep this recipe vegan, we use melted vegan butter in our banana bread batter. If you are not vegan or dairy-free, regular butter will work.
- Milk: To keep this recipe vegan, we use plant-based milk such as unsweetened almond milk or oat milk. If you are not vegan or dairy-free, regular milk will work.
- Brown Sugar: We use light brown sugar in the cinnamon sugar filling. If you don't have light brown sugar, regular organic cane sugar or even coconut sugar will work.
- Cinnamon: It wouldn't be cinnamon roll banana bread without a generous amount of ground cinnamon.
- Baking Essentials: Baking powder, baking soda, vanilla, and salt.
- Flour: We recommend using regular or gluten-free all purpose flour in the cinnamon roll banana bread batter. Our favorite gluten-free flour is King Arthur Measure for Measure.
- Oats: We use old fashioned rolled oats in our cinnamon roll banana bread to add some texture and make it more filling.
- Cream Cheese: No cinnamon roll is complete without cream cheese icing. To keep this recipe vegan, we use vegan cream cheese to make our delicious cream cheese frosting. If you are not vegan or dairy-free, regular cream cheese will work.
- Powdered Sugar: Powdered sugar is used to sweeten our cream cheese frosting.

How To Make Cinnamon Roll Banana Bread

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375. Spray a metal loaf pan with non stick baking spray. Mash three overripe bananas together in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add the almond or oat milk, melted vegan butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the large bowl. Mix well. Then, mix in the flour and oats. Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan.

Step 3: In a small bowl, make the cinnamon sugar mixture by mixing the melted vegan butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon together. Spoon the cinnamon swirl over the top of the banana bread batter and then use a spoon to fold it in a few times to create a swirl effect.

Step 4: Bake in the oven until golden brown on the top. You will know it's done because your kitchen will smell amazing and you will be able to insert a toothpick into the center of the banana bread and it will come out clean. While the banana bread bakes, make the vegan cream cheese frosting by mixing the softened vegan butter, vegan cream cheese, and powdered sugar together.

Step 5: Allow the banana bread to cool for a few minutes and then spread the top with the vegan cream cheese frosting. Serve warm.

Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend allowing the banana bread to cool completely, and then storing it in a sealed container at room temperature for 3-5 days. Keep in mind that refrigeration is drying for baked goods. To reheat, warm in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.

The number one mistake people make when making banana bread is not following the ingredients and measurements exactly. Ripe bananas add a lot of moisture, density, and sweetness to the banana bread batter. If you don't follow your baking instructions properly, you could end up with a mushy loaf.

My family and I loved this banana bread. I confess that I’m not vegan so I used regular butter and milk and I only used one tablespoon of cinnamon in the cinnamon swirl mixture (2 just seemed like a lot). Oh my goodness was this delicious, especially eating it warm right after frosting. Oh, and mine was ready after about 48 minutes.
Jillian Glenn says
So happy you and your family enjoyed!! Glad you were able to swap in regular ingredients for the vegan ones and that it still turned our amazing!
Randi says
Super delicious and so easy!!!
Lisa says
Just made this, and it was like eating banana bread but with a cinnamon roll topping! Very moist, and so good eating it warm when it comes out of the oven. I like how this recipe has oats; it gives it a hearty texture. The cinnamon topping was open-gooey just how I like it in a cinnamon roll and the cream cheese frosting was just right. Thanks for sharing!
Jillian Glenn says
So happy you love it! Thanks for trying my recipe, Lisa!
Jade Anderson says

Hiiii, can I use water instead of oat milk?? I’m out of it .. and also applesauce instead of butter??
Thank youuu
Jillian Glenn says
You can definitely use applesauce but it will alter the texture and flavor slightly. I haven't tried this recipe with water instead of milk but I am thinking it would work.
Karla Alvarado says
Hi, can I substitute the maple syrup for regular sugar?

I've cooked this a few times now and its hands down my favorite banana bread recipe now. I was wondering if it would work as muffins..
SUSAN says
Can I use extra virgin olive oil in place of the vegan butter?
Angelee says
This was soooo good definitely recommend everybody to make it!
Sue says
A delicious twist on banana bread. Of course everyone loved the icing!
I used a mixture of date syrup and blue agave syrup to good effect. I cut the (1% dairy) milk back to 1/2 cup. Only had quick oats, so in they went.
This seems to be a very forgiving recipe as it tolerates a lot of substitutions!
Michele Matthews says

This was AMAZING! I used non vegan butter and milk. I ran out of cinnamon for the swirl so I just used butter and sugar. I also didn’t make the cream cheese frosting as it was late but I can confirm this tasted incredible!! Especially warm! The sugar and butter gave it a nice crunch down the side!
I was wondering if you could freeze this or what the storage options were?
Jillian Glenn says
I am thrilled you enjoyed it! You can definitely freeze it!
wil says
hello how would i adapt the ingredients and time of baking for muffins?
thankyou!
Jillian Glenn says
I'd drop the temp for the oven to 350 and bake for 30 minutes 🙂 Everything else remains the same.
Jill Fenn says
This is perfect! Bread didn't last for more than 2 days! Will be on heavy rotation in my house!
Didn't need for it to be vegan, so I used regular butter, milk and cream cheese!
Ruby says
I made this using exact ingredients and it was so good! I had some leftover batter bc I used mini banana bread loaves so I put it in a cup and cookies it in the microwave for 1 minute and it worked perfectly. Will definitely be making this again!
Hayley says
The bread was delish but it didn’t cook well due to the oats…can I just sub more flour instead of the oats? Thanks in advance.
Jillian Glenn says
Understandable! You can definitely swap out flour to give this more structure.
